How often do you have a check-up?

When is the last time you got sick? And yes, a small cold counts.

What did  you do to cure it?

Ok.

Now what about your family?

And your house?

You understood right. How about your house? When is the last time you had a check-up done for your home? Your very own walls with a roof on top, that keeps the family in one place, one of the most important things in your life. Then why did you get that look when I asked about the check-up for the house?

Look at it as a human being. The clothes is the way it is decorated:  the design, what furniture, colors, materials. The health, is, in our case, what happens behind the concrete: the plumbing and the electricity. We all know that health is what matters most and everything else comes after; therefore, the most reasonable thing to do is making sure that the house is healthy, and only after, that it is pleasant looking. Now how can you do that?

The building inspectors. They are the doctors for our homes. They will perform a regular check-up and will tell you if you are sick, what is your disease and how you can fix it (by now you should already know how the analogy works). Probably there are two things on your mind right now: “I think my house is sick” and immediately after “how much does it cost”. To find out the answers to these questions (and more) you should check your local Building Inspectors and they can direct you from there on. Good Luck.
